Painting is amazing therapy, regardless of what you paint. When you sit down and let your body take over with the painting, your mind releases what needs to be let go. You work through things you didn’t know you needed to and when the painting is finished, it means something to you. I am in no way a learned artist, but I am proud of each of my paintings for the inner work I did while I created.

Most of the time I paint I am drawn to the female form. I almost always paint a woman without clothes. My very first painting was of a woman squatting and menstruating. Some people love it, but it makes many people uncomfortable and at one point it would have made me uncomfortable as well. When something triggers you, it is an opportunity to heal. At the time this would have triggered me, I was uncomfortable with my body and with periods. With every painting, I love my body and all bodies so much more.

It doesn’t matter if you are good at painting or not. It is the act of painting, of giving up control and letting go, that heals. I highly recommenced giving it a try. For an hour or more forget the world and everything that you have to do, and let your hands take over. Let your imagination run wild and allow yourself to heal.
